Christian Classics Book Group
Our group meets Mondays at noon to discuss books on Christianity, religion, and spirituality. We are continuing to read, “The Faith Club: A Muslim, A Christian, A Jew—Three Women Search for Understanding” , by Ranya Idliby, Suzanne Oliver and Priscilla Warner. A memoir written after September 11 as three women of different faiths and beliefs came together to explore similarities and differences to help themselves and their children better relate to others. Copies of the book are available in the library and new members are always welcome! Bring a bag lunch; coffee and tea are served.
“Food for Thought Book Group”
Our monthly book discussion this month is the winner of the 2000 Pulitzer Prize “Interpreter of Maladies”, by Jhumpa Lahiri. This collection of nine stories provides an observant and thoughtful glimpse into the lives of characters living in India, London and Boston. In her debut work, Ms. Lahiri brings an eloquent voice to characters searching for meaning, love and belonging while dealing with issues such as immigration, cultural differences, relationships and fear. Copies are available in the library. At 5:45 PM we will have a light meal and the discussion will start at 6 PM.
Soup & Psalms
This group meets from 6:00 to 7:00 PM every Tuesday from September to May. The library serves a basic meal of soup and bread and we pray psalms and briefly discuss them. We will go through the psalms sequentially.
An Inconvenient Truth
On Sunday February 11 th at 5:00 p.m. there will be pizza and soda served in the choir room before the 5:30 p.m. free showing of, “An Inconvenient Truth”, a documentary by Al Gore, considered by many as the film of the decade. At 7:00 there will be dessert and a discussion of the film. The Library and Service and Outreach Committees are co-sponsoring this 96 minute film.
